Bioidentical Hormone FAQ's
WHAT IS ANDROPAUSE?
Similar to female menopause which is sparked by a decline in androgens (male sex hormones) and typically begins in the 40’s but occurs more subtle over a period of 20 years declining approximately 2-3% per year.
WHAT TYPE OF SYMTPOMS DO YOU EXPERIENCE?
Difficulty in sexual arousal, weaker erections, cardio concerns, weight gain, osteoporosis, cognitive decline, decrease in energy, strength and endurance, depression, emotional upheavals, irritability, anxiety, lack of skin elasticity and wrinkling, joint pains and stiffness.
WHAT DOES TESTOSTERONE DO?
It is a sex hormone for the male body. Produced primarily in the tested by the specialized Leydig cells, testosterone travels through the body via the bloodstream and binds to receptors on target tissues. There are testosterone receptors all over the body. Many are in the genital area, however, the second largest concentration is in the brain. It is those receptor sites that create sexual desire and trigger the release of nitric oxide to facilitate an erection.
HOW DO YOU REPLACE TESTOSTERONE?
Hormone replacement with bioidentical hormone (non-synthetic). Twice a day application of a topical cream or twice weekly self administered injections.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HRT (HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY)?

ESTRIOL (E3) – THE FRIENDLY ESTROGEN
Of the three estrogens produced by the female body, estriol is the weakest. This weakness may be its benefit, it provides results with the least side effects. It is used to reduce menopausal symptoms as well as vaginal dryness and facial wrinkles.
ESTRADIOL (E2) – THE MOST ACTIVE ESTROGEN
This is the estrogen that has the biggest effect on the female body. It reduces the symptoms of menopause as well as prevents bone loss, lowers cholesterol, improves memory and increases clarity.
ESTRONE (E1) – THE MENOPAUSE ESTROGEN
Estrone is the predominant estrogen found in the female body after menopause. It is formed when Estradiol is broken down. Only low doses, if any, are needed in Bio-Identical HRT
PROGESTERONE (P4) – THE FEEL GOOD HORMONE
Produced from cholesterol in the body, progesterone is found in higher levels during the second half of the female cycle and during pregnancy. Some women can obtain menopausal symptom relief with progesterone alone. Progesterone can also reduce water-weight gain during menopause.
TESTOSTERONE – THE MALE HORMONE
Considered a male hormone, testosterone is also produced in low amounts in the female body. It helps retain muscle mass and increases energy and libido.
DHEA – THE MOTHER OF ALL HORMONES
A precursor hormone that will convert to progesterone, testosterone, estradiol, and estrone. Found to help reduce body fat around the abdomen, increase energy, and balance the hormone levels in the body.
